The bail application filed on behalf of Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa, was fixed for tomorrow (31) by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
When the matter came up before Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe, it was brought to the notice of the Court that notice was to be served on the Attorney General regarding this application.
Accordingly, the Chief Magistrate issued notices on the Attorney General returnable on May 31.
Last Friday (27), the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court imposed two-year-rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 100,000 on Shashi Weerawansa. This is over an incident where Mrs Weerawansa had fraudulently obtained two passports, including a diplomatic passport, by submitting forged documents to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
Meanwhile, Shashi Weerawansa had filed an appeal in the Colombo High Court through the Magistrate’s Court registrar’s office, challenging the judgment of the Magistrate’s Court.
