An investigation is underway to find out whether some policemen took photographs while sitting on President’s chair and several other locations inside the President’s House, police informed Colombo Fort Magistrate today.
The Colombo Central Division Criminal Investigation Unit made this revelation before Magistrate Thilina Gamage in response to an allegation by Counsel Maithri Gunaratne PC.
Gunaratne said thousands of protesters had entered the President’s House between the 9th of July and the 14th of August. Police officers were among those who took photos of the president’s chair and the exercise machines in the private gym of the President. The police should initiate an investigation against the police officers who neglected their duties. To support his claim, Mr Gunaratne exhibited several photos featuring police officers in several locations at the President’s House.
Police have so far arrested 35 suspects for forcibly entering the President’s House and damaging its property. The suspects are currently out on bail.
