Special gazette for tri forces to maintain law and order during funeral of Rambukkana shooting victim

President Gotabaya Rajapakse’s powers under the Public Security Act will be invoked to deploy the tri forces to maintain law and order in the Kegalle District until the funeral of the victim of the shooting in Rambukkana is over. A special gazette notice covering the areas of Dewalagama, Rambukkana and Kegalle will give effect to this until 23 April.
This provision is being made after the Inspector General of Police made a request from the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence. The victim K. B Chaminda Lakshan, died on Tuesday after police opened fire during a protest for fuel. The funeral will be held on 22 April in Naaranbadda, Hiriwadunna in the Dewalagama police division. The Ministry of Public Security yesterday, appointed a three member committee to carry out an independent investigation into the shooting.RELATED NEWS
