The chief incumbent of the Maligawatta Sri Bodhirajarama Vihara, Uvatenne Sumana Thera, has been remanded until
December 14 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court over an alleged financial fraud relating to a coconut oil deal.
Sumana Thera allegedly issued eight dishonoured checks totaling Rs. 58 million in lieu of purchasing coconut oil from a businessman in Dematagoda, according to the CID.
The CID told the court that the suspect monk had purchased 84,240 kg of coconut oil while acting in the capacity of a private company director.
