Veteran film directress Sumitra Peries passed away peacefully this morning in hospital after a brief illness.
She was 87 years old and her family were with her at the time of her passing.
Mrs Peries was married to acclaimed film director Dr Lester James Peries.
Funeral arrangements will be notified later.
