Three cabinet Ministers Wimal Weerawansa, UdayaGammanpila and Wasudewa Nanayakkara, who were cited as respondents in several Fundamental Rights petitions filedagainst the agreements on Yugadanavi power plant have today submitted their objections supporting the petitions against the Power plant..

Three Cabinet Ministers in their written submissions containing 58 pages have denied the fact that the cabinet approval has been obtained to transfer the shares of Yugadanavi power plant to the US Company.

They submitted to court that no cabinet memorandum had been submitted by the Minister of Finance, no such discussion was held and no opinion of the Cabinet of Ministers was sought prior to this transaction.

These Fundamental Rights petitions are to be heard on December 16 before a Supreme Court’s fuller bench.

The Attorney General would not appear for the three cabinet Ministers namely Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila and Wasudewa Nanayakkara since they have retained a private counsel.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya General Secretary RanjithMaddumabandara, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) former Parliamentarians Sunil Hadunneththi and WasanthaSamarasinghe, Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjithand  Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera have already filed Fundamental Rights petitions challenging the agreements entered between the Government of Sri Lanka and New Fortress Energy Inc in relation to the sale of 40% of the shares of Yugadanavi power plant in Kerawalapitiya to a US Company.

The petitioners had named Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Cabinet of Ministers, New Fortress Energy Inc, West Coast Power (Private) Limited, Ceylon Electricity Board, Attorney General and several others as respondents in the petition.
