The writ petition by a retired Colonel will be taken up on February 23.

The writ petition filed by a retired Army Colonel seeking an order quashing the decision of the Election Commission to hold the local government elections was today re-fixed for support on February 23 by the Supreme Court.

The petition was called before a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices S. Thurairaja and Shiran Goonaratne, consequent to a motion filed by Colonel (Retd.) W.M.R. Wijesundera, who sought an earlier court date to further support his application.

However, President's Counsel Faisz Musthapha, appearing for the petitioner, informed the court that there was no necessity for supporting the motion since the election for the postal vote has been postponed indefinitely.

On February 10, the Supreme Court's three-judge bench, comprising Justices S. Thurairaja, A.H.M.D. Nawaz, and Shiran Goonaratne, postponed this writ petition for further support on February 23.
