A 28-year-youth arrested for allegedly entering the President’s House and taking photographs while sitting on the President’s chair was ordered to be remanded till fifth August by Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect Hashan Hasaranga, a resident of Samanpuragama, was remanded after being produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage by the Colombo Crimes Division.
The CCD alleged that the suspect is charged with causing damages to the property belonging to the President’s House on the 9th of July.
Senior Counsel Shiraz Noordeen appearing for the suspect, moved Court that his client be released on bail.
He said that charges of trespass against the suspect cannot be maintained because thousands of protesters had entered the President’s House on this particular day. The Magistrate ordered the police to conduct further investigations into the matter.
